Tomorrow morning I was scheduled to poly a sex offender who had been texting a 13 year old girl, and dating women with children. About an hour ago the PO called me and said the SO hung himself yesterday. Don’t get me wrong….it’s probably a successful termination. Anyone going to those lengths to avoid the polygraph has another victim! When I got into the business my mentor told me ‘someone you polygraph will commit suicide’. I just never figured it would be before I got my claws into them. Have any of you had experiences with suicides before or after polys? Taylor

I agree, but what I am stuck on is there have got to be more victims from this man and that drives me nuts...if I could of had him for just a little bit maybe we could have identified them. Plus I was curious about the suicide rate on criminals taking polys. Taylor IP: Logged |

This summer, I had a former high school classmate shoot and kill himself after violating his probation. He was originally on probation for soliciting a minor on the Internet and then was arrested when he met the female juvenile in a hotel room.Apparently, he was doing similar things while on probation and chose to kill himself rather than go to prison. He had a wife and 2 children at the time. I believe that just prior to his death he had taken a polygraph exam that revealed he was violating his probation by speaking and/or soliciting minor females again. Taylor, I am sorry it happened. My 2 cents is that you are lucky it didn't happen after your meeting with him.I have had 2 attmpts---one successful, one unsuccessful. The unsuccessful attempt was from my one and only telephonic scatological offender. The guy just could not stop offending, and told me of his thought processes everytime he even glanced at an unused telephone. He admitted to his old tricks of getting in the glove box of a female mark who is out erranding----getting the phone number from information, calling with rape threats for a week or so, and eventually physically stalking in between the calls. To talk with the guy, he was an impressive character, albeit freaky interest-bound. Truth be told, I found him to be a fascinating creature----and at the very least, I would not have wished death on the guy, but instead a strong cage and perhaps a harmless hobby (like putting those little boats in the bottles.) Death is too good for the worst of them, but many of them just need to be boxed for life (imo). The successful suicide attemptee did so many months after my exam and did it while under another examiner's watch (thankfully.) IP: Logged |

I've not experienced this, but an examiner with the MSP here once had a guy run out of his office and towards the highway. He was trying to throw himself in front of an 18-wheeler. They rolled around on the grass beside the road until backup arrived. I don't recall what the issue was, but the examiner considers it a confirmed test. It's sad, yes, and such things can really bother some of the good guys, but we can't control what a person bent on harming himself will do - usually anyhow as I guess my story above is an exception. My only known suicide was about 15 years ago. The examinee, a successful businessman, was brought in by his wife regarding his fidelity during their dating years, prior to their marriage. The husband was very cocky throughout the process and did not seem to take it very seriously. After some classic DI charts, he was confronted by his wife and subsequently confessed to a variety of indiscretions during the time period in question. About 10 days go by and the wife calls again, now wanting her husband tested for fidelity issues during the marriage. At the second exam, the husband was not arrogant at all - rather meek and pale in fact. He denied any acts of infidelity during the marriage, but proceeded to produce charts virtually identical to the previous exam. A few days after I provided the DI results to his wife, I received a call that the husband's body was found in the woods, having taken a bottle of sleeping pills. A sad ending indeed.------------------ Michael Martin Global Polygraph Network www.polytest.org IP: Logged | |
